With a combination of flavorful ingredients like garlic powder, apple cider vinegar, and your favorite BBQ sauce, this easy recipe brings the taste of the Lone Star State to your table with minimal effort. Slow cooking ensures the pork shoulder absorbs all the rich flavors, making this the best pulled pork you’ve ever had.
ingredients needed:
- Pork Shoulder Roast: A juicy cut that’s perfect for shredding; pork butt or boneless pork shoulder works well, too.
- Barbecue Sauce: Adds that smoky, tangy flavor we all love.
- Apple Cider Vinegar: Balances the richness of the pork with a touch of acidity.
- Chicken Broth: Helps create a flavorful cooking liquid for tenderizing the meat.
- Brown Sugar: A hint of sweetness that complements the savory elements.
- Yellow Mustard: Provides a tangy, zesty layer of flavor.
- Worcestershire Sauce: Adds depth and umami to the dish.
- Chili Powder: A little spice to elevate the flavor profile.
- Garlic Cloves: Fresh garlic brings an aromatic kick to the pork.
- Dried Thyme: Earthy herbs enhance the natural flavor of the pork.
- Large Onion: Adds sweetness and texture as it cooks down with the pork.
How to Make Slow Cooker Texas-Style Pulled Pork
- Pour olive oil into the bottom of your slow cooker. Place the pork shoulder roast into the crock pot.
- Add the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, garlic, thyme, and chopped onion on top.
- Cover and cook on high for 5-6 hours (or low for 10-12 hours) until the pork easily shreds.
- Remove the pork, shred using two forks, and discard any excess fat. Transfer the shredded pork back into the crock pot and stir it into its own juices. Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns, in tacos, or over a salad for a delicious meal.
