RECIPE TIPS
- You can either buy pizza dough from your local store for this recipe or make your own. This 2-Ingredient Pizza Dough would work well for this Patty Melt Pizza. I like making a few pizza dough bases to freeze for easy pizza making whenever the urge arises.
- Get creative with your Patty Melt Pizza toppings. Red onion rings, chopped parsley, and sliced pepperoni are oh-so delicious. Better yet, get the kids involved by allowing them to add their own toppings!
- Easily make mini Patty Melt pizzas from this recipe for kids parties, the Super Bowl and other social gatherings.
- Freeze any leftover ground beef you have from other dishes to make this pizza or save any leftover ground beef from this pizza recipe for other midweek meals.

- Preheat oven to 400°F. Preheat large sauté pan on medium-high 2–3 minutes. Add ground beef, seasoned salt, and pepper; brown 5–7 minutes, stirring to crumble meat, or until no pink remains.
- Drain off excess grease. Stir steak sauce into meat and remove meat from the pan.
- Place butter in same pan, then add onions and Worcestershire sauce; cook over a medium heat for about 8 minutes or until soft and well browned.
- Flour hands lightly and pat dough evenly into lightly greased or nonstick pizza pan. (Or turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll to desired thinness.)
- Combine shredded cheese and dressing and spread over pizza crust. Arrange meat over dressing and then spread cooked onions over meat.
- Top with cheddar cheese and return to oven; bake 18–20 minutes or until cheese melts.
WHAT IS A PATTY MELT?
- A Patty Melt is a grilled sandwich, consisting of ground beef, melted cheese and caramelized onions. Although it’s not clear exactly when this iconic sandwich was invented, records do exist of it being commercially sold as far back as the 1940s.
- Needless to say that this Patty Melt has had a few face lifts in the years that have followed. Popular adaptations of the traditional Patty Melt sandwich includes Patty Melt sliders, Patty Melt casseroles and Patty Melt Pizzas like the one I’m sharing with you today.
CAN I MAKE THIS PATTY MELT PIZZA AHEAD OF TIME?
- Pizza is best enjoyed freshly made and straight out of the oven. With that said, you do have the option of preparing your ground beef the night before to save you some time when assembling to cook.
- Alternatively, you can fully assemble your pizza without baking and then freeze it for an easy and quick meal later on. When you do so, make sure that all your ingredients are cool before adding to the pizza dough.
- Then place your pizza on it’s pizza pan in the freezer (uncovered) till frozen. Remove from the freezer once frozen and tightly wrap it in plastic wrap to store in your freezer for up to 1-2 months.
- Thaw your frozen pizza for 1-2 hours on a countertop to bake and serve.
