Can i make this green bean casserole ahead of time?
- To make ahead: mix all the ingredients and pour them into your baking dish. Cover it with plastic wrap or foil until you’re ready to bake it. Just remember that with the ingredients being cold, you may need to bake your casserole a little longer to heat thoroughly.
CAN FRESH GREEN BEANS BE USED IN THIS RECIPE?
- Yes, fresh green beans can be used in this recipe instead of the canned variety. I personally prefer canned beans – it makes this particular dish extremely delicious, probably owing to the added salt and soft texture that you get from canned beans.
HOW SHOULD I STORE THIS EASY GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE?
- To store in the refrigerator: place the baked casserole in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- To store in the freezer: I wouldn’t recommend storing this casserole in the freezer. From experience, cooked beans don’t hold up well to freezing and the crispy topping becomes somewhat soggy.
TIPS FOR MAKING THIS CLASSIC GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE
- If you are using a 13×9 baking dish, then you will want to double this recipe. This is a great option for feeding crowds over the holidays but just make sure that you increase your baking time when doubling the quantities to make sure that your casserole is hot upon serving.
- If you opt for using fresh beans for this recipe, make sure that you boil them until they are tender-crisp and drain well.

Can mushroom soup be replaced with a different creamed soup?
Yes, it sure can. Is there one you had in mind to try?
I used cheddar cheese soup instead of cream of mushroom soup. Adds a new flavor to the casserole. But, then again, I also add shredded cheese to my recipe.
I always use cream of chicken, good option if you do not like mushroom.
I use cream of celery soup because one of the ladies that likes it that we have it for a party. I always use the celery soup because she’s allergic to mushrooms and it Good
Cream of celery soup works well too
It’s especially good when doubling the recipe and using one can of each
(Cream of mushroom and cream of celery) You can also add cooked bacon or a small jar /can of mushrooms for a different flavor profile. However it’s no longer the Easy 4 ingredient recipe which is good as is. 😊
I’m cooking for a banquet. How many servings does the x1 or 3 can recipe serve approximately?
Made green bean casserole with sausage gravy and omg it was delicious
That sounds delish!
I added little pieces of ham and bacon.
How long would I need to bake it in the larger casserole dish?
if it is a deeper dish, maybe add on 5-10 more mins. But if it shallow, I would keep it about the same.
We add an envelope of dry onion soup mix for some extra flavor. Good stuff!
Oh! That sounds like a yummy idea!
Can you freeze leftovers or should you freeze before cooking?
You can freeze leftovers. You might want to get extra crispy onions to put on top after reheating.
Easy-so easy and good to eat!
