Recipe Notes:
- If white chocolate isn’t your preference, you can use milk chocolate or dark chocolate instead or even create an assortment.
- If you’ve got spare Lucky Charms marshmallows from this recipe, you can use them up in other fun recipes such as Shamrock Shake Cupcakes, Lucky Charms cereal bars (like this Unicorn Cereal Bar recipe except you’d use the Lucky Charms cereal and marshmallows instead), or add them to this Mini Pancake Cereal!
- Use silicone molds for your chocolate spheres instead of hard plastics as this will prove much easier when trying to pop them out without breaking them.
- These Lucky Charms Hot Chocolate Bombs would make cute gifts for teachers, family and friends, for kids birthday parties or your St Patrick Day celebrations. If you intend gifting them, use a cello bag or cardboard box and decorate with St Patrick’s Day themed ribbon, accessories and gift tags.
- Serve your hot chocolate bombs in St Patrick’s Day themed mini cupcake liners on a platter for added visual effect!
If you’re looking for a delicious adult version of these hot chocolate bombs then consider adding 2 ounces of bourbon whiskey to your mug once the hot milk and hot chocolate bombs have been mixed. It’s as easy as that!
Yes! You’ll be happy to know that hot chocolate bombs can be kept for 2-3 weeks if stored in an airtight container and kept in a cool, dry place or preferably the refrigerator.
This means that you can get a head start on preparing for your St Patrick’s day celebrations! Just note though that if any of your chocolate spheres have any holes in them, the mini marshmallows inside the bombs may get stale which is why it’s best to store them in an airtight container if you’re making them ahead of time. With that said, you may not mind slightly stale marshmallows since those you’ll be using from the Lucky Charms cereal are already dehydrated.
Lucky Charms Hot Chocolate Bombs
- Place the white chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval, until the chocolate chips are fully melted.
- Put a spoonful of melted chocolate inside one cup on the silicone mold and use the back of the spoon to spread the chocolate up the sides of the mold. Continue this process until all the molds are coated.
- Set the remaining chocolate aside for sealing and decorating the bombs.
- Allow the chocolate to set completely, around 2 to 3 hours. You can speed up the process by placing the chocolate in the refrigerator.
- When the chocolate is set, remove each of the chocolate pieces from the mold. Add a small amount of instant hot cocoa mix to half the pieces and top the hot cocoa mix with Lucky Charms marshmallow.
- Reheat the chocolate in 15 second intervals until melted. Pick up an empty chocolate piece and dip the edges into the melted chocolate. Carefully place it on top of a filled piece and lightly press it into place. Use your finger to smooth melted chocolate around the seam. Continue until all the chocolate bombs are sealed.
- Drizzle the chocolate over the top of the bombs and decorate with marshmallows from Lucky Charms cereal. Allow the chocolate decorations to set before using, around 1 hour.
- To make the hot chocolate bombs, place the bomb in the bottom of a mug. Pour one cup of hot milk over the top of the bomb to melt the chocolate. When the chocolate is completely melted, stir to combine.
