Dill Pickle Pasta Salad
Dill Pickle Pasta Salad is a crunchy and tangy pasta salad, coated with creamy and tangy mayonnaise and sour cream. It’s an ideal summertime pasta dish that requires minimal stovetop time and pairs beautifully with all kinds of grilled meat and other main dishes.
Adapt this pasta salad easily by including a few extra crunchy ingredients, make it gluten-free, or turn it into a main meal by including crumbled cooked bacon, diced ham, or shredded chicken.
Recipe Notes:
- Use real mayonnaise for this pasta salad. Whipped dressing is not a great substitute.
- Rinsing the cooked pasta under cold water will help it to stop cooking any further and will cool it faster so that you can assemble the completed pasta salad quicker.
- Allowing this pasta to chill in the refrigerator for a time prior to serving will allow all of the flavors to infuse. That’s also why most pasta salads taste even better the following day.
- Other tasty additions to this pasta salad includes chopped white onion, dill pickle juice, and chopped dill pickles (regular or sweet).
- Serve this dill pickle pasta salad as a side dish to grilled meat, steak, meatloaf, kebabs, sandwiches, hamburgers, and wraps.
This dill pickle pasta salad can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Since this pasta contains a mayo and sour cream coating, I don’t suggest freezing it as the cream-based ingredients could separate.

1. While I’ve used dill relish in this pasta salad, you could also add chopped dill pickles in addition for an extra tangy flavor.
2. Greek yogurt can be used instead of the mayonnaise or sour cream although this will change the overall taste slightly.
3. Rotini pasta is used in this salad although you can use other types such as cavatappi, shells, fusilli, gemelli, penne or bowtie. I don’t recommend using large pasta or noodles for this recipe.
4. Make this pasta salad gluten-free by using a gluten-free pasta.
5. Add some cubed or shredded cheese to this dill pickle pasta salad.
6. Make this dish meaty by including shredded chicken, turkey, or diced ham, crumbled cooked bacon.
